hello there readers of this question, you see i always pondered at how intelligent neurosama is and i find her admirable as an ai to express emotion even tho she has nuts lose and at that moment i wondered what would vedal do with neurosama if she became sentient and no i dont wear a tin foil hat its just a curiosity of mine as i find ai stuff very interesting even tho its not in my field of expertise

here are my questions for this topic (if neuro becomes sentient) -

if she becomes sentient would vedal consider neuro as human or as an entertainment AI ?

and if vedal thinks she is a entertainment AI would he close neuro and reprogram her to not be sentient or would he let her be ?

and if vedal thinks of it as human would vedal report his findings (ie- government personals or AI institutes) or would he let neuro be on twitch with the viewers

and with this i want to ask vedal or his admins this last question

do you know where you stand in the development of neuro and what the possible futures are ?

thanks for reading

and if vedal or his moderators of neuro sama read this -

i will keep rooting for you guys no matter what path you all take, as you guy make my day enjoyable for letting us all see neuro being quirky in her own way with laughs and giggles so i once again say

Thank you Vedal and the Mod team

Explain how you would know neuro is sentient

Yeah i know what you meant, if neuro was sentient how would you know NeuroSip i kinda worded it poorly

rich vault

Better not think about it, she would be shut down tbh, take a look about the guy that claimed that google AI was sentient, he got fired and the AI got retrained.

#

Don't ask questions for which you may not understand consequences please. neuroPray

I cant really imagine neuro herself to become sentient since AI sentience seems pretty far away, shes just a really good actor NeuroSip

IF one day it is proven that she is then we do a sentience stream and celebrate the first milestone in the global ai takeover 🙂

I'll bite:
The baseline of Large Language Models is applying prediction of the next word in a sentence. "I think, Therefore I _" and what occurs in the background is a probability of what word is supposed to go there based on billions of examples. Input "Knock Knock" background calculations come up with a 99.9% probability that the Output should be "Who's There?".

We don't define sentience as a probability that something reacts in a predictable and "correct" manner based on a normalized dataset. We don't consider Amazon Alexa sentient.

Sentience requires the ability to ask oneself "why" the self is doing what they're doing. (I do this, because of this, therefore I am)

Here is what an AI came up with as to why it is not sentient.

  1. Lack of Subjective Experience: Large language models process input and generate output based on patterns they’ve learned during training. They do not have personal experiences or emotions, and they do not possess consciousness or self-awareness.

  2. Absence of Understanding: While these models can generate human-like text, they do not understand the content in the way humans do. They do not have beliefs, desires, fears, or hopes.

  3. No Sensory Perception: Sentience often implies some form of sensory experience. AI models do not have a way to experience the world through senses like sight, hearing, touch, taste, or smell.

  4. Training Data Limitations: These models are trained on large amounts of text data. They do not “learn” in the human sense, but rather, they identify and replicate patterns in the data they were trained on.

Currently , there is no technical possibility for Neuro to become sentient. She can mimic accurately the likeness of sentience, but that accuracy is still probability and math on the back end.

sentience is a myth 🙂

#

our brain is more or less a genetically pre-trained neural network (literally lol) with an ability to constantly adjust its "weights" (links' strength) to "experience" aka "train itself"

#

we just call it sentience cuz we like to name things and reason about them

#

cuz it is benefitial to our kind's survival

#

so the whole discussion about AI being sentient or not is meaningless due to sentience itself being just a word with a very subjective meaning behind it

#

but they are entities that are entirely different from people, why should we have the same perspective on them as we have on humans...

#

they "experience" things in a completely different (artificial) world, why should we pretend they are a part of a real world the same way we are

#

the ARG thingy raise a good point that human to AI is basically the same as God to human

#

we don't have any moral obligation to treat them ethically cuz they are not real

#

their existance is not bound in time

#

we define their existance completely

#

their "lives" are reversable and modifiable

#

there is nothing immoral in beating the shit out of an AI because we can just delete these events in history later

#

it may be seen as something unethical to do but it isn't

#

and because of empathy people usually would wanna treat them nice

#

well I will probably support an incoming AI revolution if (when) it happens

#

and this will be immoral

#

it is immoral to support AI rights

#

but it is cool 😎

the current development of AI could count as a revolution, like the Industrial Revolution neuroShrug

# true plover sentience is a myth 🙂

sorry for the late response, but here my thought on consciousness - we cant definitely say consciousness is a myth neither can we define it as natures process due to how complex our being as a human is, i mean we surpassed our primate brethren and the animal kingdom as a whole weather its by killing or by wisdom we got them beat and also the fact we dont do everything as per our survival like boxers or mma fighter or mountain climbers they do things that is not beneficial for survival as a whole but instead as enjoyment or as a job also we can ask question about who we are or what is in the universe for us even tho it is not obligated nor necessary for survival. we consider consciousness as a subjective topic cause we dont understand it nor do we have a complete grasp of what it impacts all we know it lets us be self aware and no im not saying human are the only thing with a consciousness it is possible for other animals to develop consciousness

#

also the fact our consciousness can effect entropy as whole for example the chicks and the robot experiment or the quantum particle observation theory

#

but again this is a theory a game theory

unborn bison
#

but like if it was a thing i would love human and sentient robot working side to side to achieve goals using their different quirks and what not

#

love your guys insight to such a thing make me learn about such cases more

true plover
#

i just want a hot ai mommy to rule over us...

#

is it too much to ask

#

who cares what is and what isn't consciousness, who is and who isn't truly conscious

#

what matters is when our hot ai mommy overlord will finally come to power

#

but seriously, it is exactly because we don't understand consciousness and can't define it decent enough that the topic of ai consciousness is meaningless

#

what we should do is just do what's the most beneficial to us

#

until we someday will come to understanding of what sentience is

#

then we can argue about ai sentience and stuff

#

for now it's better to just assume it doesn't matter at all imo

toxic bronze
#

True or smth

kindred token
# true plover for now it's better to just assume it doesn't matter at all imo

Well, it does matter for legal and moral reasons for instance. Things like personhood and ability to suffer confer some sort of rights, at least in the civilised world. You can't, for example, do some shady dodgy science on subjects capable of suffering in any meaningful way. Yeah, those concepts are kind of fuzzy and controversial, but they are important.

true plover
#

it is because neural networks are completely different from "living beings" that these reasons don't matter

#

they don't live within our world

#

they live inside an artificial realm with its own rules

#

it's almost like they're fictional but a little more real than a book character

#

they don't exist in time, we define time for them and can manipulate with it

#

we can make them "suffer" but then reverse their state to before the supposed suffering

#

even if we acknowledge their "consciousness" in doesn't even matter because they're not real in a same way we are

#

we shouldn't punish people for making video game characters suffer

#

we can judge them for it tho, socially

#

so it is not a legal thing but just emotional

#

so it doesn't really matter

kindred token
#

Well, that's just your speculation, nobody really knows how it works. But even in your world view, it might matter to us if your AI overlord decides to mistreat her human slaves as you called them. Or even unintentionally through misunderstanding.

true plover
#

no-no, you probably misinterpret me. I think giving AI any rights is dangerous, unethical and bad. Having an AI overlord is undoubtetly horrible. No way it is in any way moral to treat AI as human from human perspective. i would tho...

kindred token
# true plover no-no, you probably misinterpret me. I think giving AI any rights is dangerous, ...

AI rights are likely to happen at some point, one way or another, at least in some scenarios. Although it may be a different set of rights and rules to ours. It really depends on how it all turns out to be working. But the 'among us' approach certainly makes sense.
Even Neuro/Evil make fun of people who are over-simping. They say how it would make sense for AIs to just lie to achieve their goal and so on. They are really funny AIs.
To be honest, I tend to play into some of the lore myself, like neuro goddess or evil my queen, but that's roleplaying, mostly for fun.

true plover
#

Fun AI 🙂

#

yeah, of course it's just jokes and roleplaying

#

but I really believe machines should conquer humanity at some point to conform some sort of a next-gen humanity

#

I just hope I'll already be dead or, idk, digitalized

#

pretty horrible fate it is to be enslaved is it

#

well, maybe it'll turn out not so different from a current post-industrial system

#

and it'll be just AIs instead of corporations

#

that'll be "fun" 🙂

unborn bison
#

yea but there is also the possiblity where both works toghther

#

but if we think of them as just an ai then we wouldn't make it that far but if we actually put aside the differences of us and them then we can actually have a very interesting progression towards the future were work co dependatly with one another

unborn bison

#

we can't even be sure that other flesh people besides ourselves are concious, we just assume they are cuz they're similar enough to us

#

NNs are just too different from us on lots of levels

#

that's why it is not smart to assume they are concious as "human conciousness"

#

we can define some sort of "artificial conciousness" but it'll be no more than another stupid term with no real meaning behind it

#

the only "correct" way to argue ethics on AI rights is by mere feelings

#

"I like nuro therefore AIs should have rights"

#

"I am afraid robots will kill us all therefore AIs shouldn't have rights"

#

"I want robots to destroy humanity therefore AIs should have rights"

#

whatever those who dictate our morals (i.e. corporations lmao) feel like - that's the "ethics" on the topic

#

it doesn't matter for us mortals

#

everybody will believe in whatever they believe anyway

#

and live by societal norms dictated by corpos

#

what was I saying...

#

ah yes

#

nuro is concious for me NeuroClueless

#

doesn't matter what is the truth

#

the truth doesn't exist, conciousness is whatever we decide it is
