If she has fewer pieces and/or less quality, make it appear to her as something bad so that she can have a negative reaction, instead of her thinking she is winning.
I would also suggest showing her at least some information about the board, such as the pieces attacked on both sides (except pawns), if a piece was taken, if there was a check, if there was a checkmate, etc.
I believe this applies to almost any game without needing to make Neuro's AI have any real control over the game, at least make it look like she is playing.
