memorizing an electrical wiring diagram of a house and only being able to diagnose wiring problems based on effector outputs

take for example INO (a.k.a. internuclear ophthalmoplegia)

pretty obvious examination sign

linked to a single defect (i.e. knock out of the medial longitudinal fasciculus)
