I'm taking a swing at one of the new Lorwyn commanders, and have landed on Tam, Mindful First-Year.

Basically, I'm trying to make it a 'color matters' deck, in that I gain advantages and have the potential to make creative plays by manipulating the colors of permanents (and possibly spells, but probably not so much). I don't want my commander to be a lynch pin, just an effective enhancement to my game plan.
I'm sitting at 79 cards, and wanting to keep it under $100 total. Decently Bracket 2 with room to evolve.
I think it's going to be pretty janky, so I'd like to have a decent top end of potentially game-winning creatures, but it would be cool to have some cohesive sub-theme living in there too, if at all possible.
Once I know what the curve/color balance is then I'll figure out the basic ramp package/mana base.
What am I missing? What jank can you suggest?
or one mana of a color that creature is.)
