I love my Alela commander deck, it's under $12 and when it plays out I have a great time. Trouble is that the deck is very reliant on Alela staying on the board for it to work. I played in a game last night where 5 board wipes were played and I felt like I couldn't do anything. Should I put in more protection for Alela or is there another creature I can add so that when Alela dies the deck still can perform?

I would look into throwing in more mana rocks cause Alela likes artifacts in general and it helps recast her if she does. Signets are pretty cheap and get colored mana.
Your other option is protecting your board. This can be counters which are solid catch all's, but are tempting on other scary threats. Others are board protectors, like [[rootborn defense]] or [[unbreakable formation]]
I'd say mana rocks and board protectors are the way to go, cause it allows you to try and close out if someone does try to wipe the board

[[tyrite sanctum]] will take 2 turn but will protect alela for a while

I love these suggestions, I especially love Soul of New Phyrexia, as it's an artifact that triggers alela. I personally like permanents that can give indestructible or some other form of protection. Are there any other?

[[daring fiendbonder]] puts a counter from the graveyard
[[teferi's veil]] if you attack alot
