I am looking over the first deck I made when I got back into Magic.

My roomates bought me all the Transformers cards. (Secret lair included)

And I'm a HUGE Transformers nerd/fan...

I of course got all the Robots.

And I decided to fill in the deck with more artifact creatures - I went with Modular. (cause Blaster and Arcee have some +1/+1 token play)
--- and some Clue tokens.

But man its...
Its clear I didn't know what I was doing.

And now its too precious to me that while I know I wanna fix it - I don't wanna mess with it.

Can I get some help? I think I can do better than Modular and Clues. Please.

How set are you on the choice of your commander?

60%
I like it cause it makes all my robots cheaper. Since they all have only 1 mana symbol.

noble mortar
#

Personally I think this sounds like a lot of fun

#

each transformer would bring out a second transformer

broken helm
#

Hmmmm!!

noble mortar
#

I agree that modular sounds a lot better in theory than it is in practice.

#

I've build two commanders that are commonly built with Modular and I have decided against it both times

#

If you have an Ozolith (sideboard), it seems like an easy addition to the deck. Maybe it's there because you plan to buy it?

broken helm
#

Yeah, its "unowned" currently.

noble mortar
#

If you would be willing to drop the two green transformers, this would be an option for the commander

#

Green also has a lot of good effects like Hardened Scales and the 15 knockoff hardened scales cards, so I guess maybe keep it wubrg

broken helm
#

Wubrg is fun.

My friend suggests doin' stuff like Timless Lotus -> Ramos Dragon Engine -> Door to Nothingness

But that seems... "much"

noble mortar
#

Cards like Together Forever and Herald of Secret Streams would be auto includes in your deck, imo

#

There are enough cards in commander that you don't need 3 themes

#

Drop modular entirely, drop clues entirely, and drop the energy counters

#

Since you have access to all 5 colors, there are a ton of +1/+1 support cards

broken helm
#

Thank you.

noble mortar
#

All of your important creatures are artifacts, so makes sure to include Blacksmith's Skill

broken helm
#

oooo

noble mortar
#

It seems like you focus so much on your bad cards that you forget to include actually good cards

#

You have a spot for Weapon Rack and Magnifying Glass, but there are no good mana rocks outside of Sol RIng

broken helm
#

Like I said, first deck I made when I got back into the hobby. I've gotten better >_>

noble mortar
#

Arcane Signet, Fellwar Stone etc

#

Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves go in almost all decks that care about creatures

noble mortar
broken helm
#

Yeah, that's not really my style.

I am loving your suggestions however.

Thank you 🙂

#

my roomate is suggesting a "vehicles matter" or "Vehicle Tribal"
Which intrigues, but since I can't always garentee my bots will be vehicles (I mean I can always play them as, but they do have flip conditions)

noble mortar
#

There is always a place for flavor, so if you want to include The AllSpark you absolutely should

#

Vehicle tribal can be hard to do in a "fun" way. There aren't enough good vehicles to make it reliable, and you instead end up tutoring for one or two vehicles every game in my experience

#

Since most of your creatures would be transformers, you would need to tap those before combat to crew the vehicles, and it would take away from the "SWING WITH MY TRANSFORMER ARMY"

broken helm
#

well, all but 2 (Blaster and Soundwave) turn into vehicles
(also excluding the non-flip Optimus and Megatron)

#

Indeed.
And they dont have Crew...

noble mortar
#

They turn into vehicles as far as anthems go, but they don't have crew and they don't require you to play creatures that can crew them

broken helm
#

Yeah.

So "Vehciles matter" should stay off the table. 🙂

You have access to all cards since you are in all colors, which is 25 000 cards. There isn't really a need to play multiple themes. You absolutely can if you want to, but in my experience it has been a lot more fun playing decks that only do one thing, because every single card synergizes with every single other card

#

If you draw a lot of cards every game (20-30 or so), you can consistently pull of both themes but otherwise it can be rough

broken helm
#

Wowzers

noble mortar
#

"creatures that like +1/+1 counters really is enough for the whole deck

broken helm
#

True

#

Thank you ❤️

noble mortar
#

You can add fun stuff like Eerie Interlude, which flips all of your transformers back to their front side in addition to acting as protection

broken helm
#

oh-ho

A big problem in deckbuilding is that there are enough cards to make a whole deck around your theme, and also enough cards to make a whole deck with 0 regard to your theme, running only overpowered cards like Cyclonic Rift, Force of Negation, Teferi's Protection, Thassa's Oracle, Heroic Intervention, Farewell, Ruinous Ultimatum, etc.

#

Everyone has to learn how to get a balance between the two, and everyone's balance is different

#

If you wanted to power your deck up, there are a ton of cards to add that 100% would increase your power level. Right now, your deck looks like it at least has a lot of flavor and that's nice to see ^^

Honestly I would recommend picking a Transformer and sticking to it as a commander. I love transformers too, and my current and only deck is Megatron it's how I got into MTG.

#

As a whole though, they thrive off of sticking to their archetype more than sticking them together, though some do surely benefit in small batches
