If you like near egregious levels of grind it's amazingly perfect.
if you DON'T like near egregious levels of grind then it's just rather alright... but thanks to a little dupe trick it goes from rather alright to pretty good over all.

what is good grind? you may ask... well good grind is running around an area in Final Fantasy 12 to level up party members, gather resources to sell, and to obtain certain items that can only be obtained from enemies. it still feels like you are making progress despite staying in the same area...

bad grind is when you spend HOURS doing the same thing over and over (runescape skilling) or HOURS scouring for small pockets of resources only to get drips and drops of said resource when you need 500 of that resource...

Ok so for example if u want to craft say a new weapon and rhat weapon needs 3 parts but those parts can only be acheived by beating a boss and u keep killing the boss and u only get 2 of the parts and not the last part would that be good or bad grind?

Valheim: you need like 200+ copper ore just to make enough bars to have better gear and copper ore only generates in a location you can't survive in with starting equipment not to mention the nodes are only like... 25 or so units (last I played). V-rising, were it not for game/world settings, you would need like 50 ore to make 10 bars and wait A LONG TIME OF REAL TIME to do anything...

in MH:W go on a hunt for Rathalos and needing 10 of the RARE MATERIAL... run the hunt 5 times and get ONE... run it 10 times and STILL only get one

No Man's Sky has the sort of resource grind of Valheim however, like I said, a dupe trick makes that a non issue and makes the game decently enjoyable.

So, in that game I spam every day, to get the endgame upgrades you just have to combine lower grade ones

Take 2 HP 1 upgrades, turn them into 1 HP2

some games do the farm/grind cycle right where it feels good and enjoyable. I.E. Planet Crafter nailed the gameplay loop with just a demo.

The thing is, each level brings your chances of success down by 10%

You start with a 95% success chance on a lvl 2 upgrade

Down to 15% on lvl 10

ugh... I hate that 'chance to fail' mechanic. saw that in OG AION go to socket a rare and really good, for your build/class, mana stone onto a piece of equipment and it shows the success rate... only for it to fail and break the manastone (break as in deletes it)

anyways ... that's another thing I'm not too big a fan of... rare drop tables and some hidden luck stat that doesn't do much in the first place since increasing that luck barely does anything...

Much like grind there is a right and wrong way to do the whole rare drop mechanic.

Runescape does it terribly where you need to throw away an equipment slot to have a permanent luck ring equipped (it's not permanent permanent but it may as well be) just to roll for rare drops...

Terraria does it right where you can just setup a grinder trap to farm the mobs and not have to be there running around constantly killing things till you get those rare drops.
