poem based off the radiohead lyrics “waiting drives you crazy”
waiting
i wait for you
like the clouds wait for the rain
like the sea waits for a ship
that already sank
i crave someone
who looks through me
as if i’m air
or won’t even bother
glancing in my direction
whatsoever
every table
a empty seat
just incase you appear
the silence of your voice
i carry into every room
carving the remembrance
of your footsteps
behind me
with every step i take
taking a step forward
but remembering to take two steps back
incase you were standing in the ruins
of everything i thought we were
i look up
at the clock
time moving
yet the closed door remains still
why does time move
but i’m still waiting
for you to walk through
and waiting
and waiting
it drives me crazy
i lie and say i’m healing
the destructive feeling
erased like memories
one day i will be able to step forward
without stepping back
leaving you behind
like a forgotten song
still echoing in the air
but to the point where i zone it out
one day i am gonna grow wings
not the kind you see on angels
or dreams
glowing, blinding , soft
but the wings carved from sorrow
of waiting too long
with my hand out
for someone who will never reach back
