Hello! Would love any feedback on this take for an audition. New to VA as well as audio recording/editing. I used a tone slightly higher than my natural speaking voice (any particular qualities, whether it would be considered medium, high, etc) would be greatly appreciated! Knowing what others hear when I speak will help me understand my voice better ☺️
**Also, for the audition this is what was given for the role description- “Female adult, female young adult. Clearsight is deeply kind, willful and serious”.

hi! great start. love what you've got to start with here. and congratulations on taking that first step into VO in the first place. with that said you're gonna need to talk to your vo teacher about this if you have one. and if you don't start looking. there's some skills you need to practice and develop and we're gonna get into that. you're at a good place to start but i'll give a small primer in a couple of parts so you can go back to your vo teacher and build skill from there.

part 1:

now this is actually a good start. you can work with this. the problem with this is it sounds like you're reading out loud. you're disconnected from the character and the situation. now it's okay most people sound like that starting out. even though all vo is reading words off a page it's a special skill to lift the words off the page and live truthfully in the moment under imaginary circumstance.

#

part 2:

now how do you do this? the trick is to create a conversation between another imaginary person and your character. again this is gonna take a lot of practice. it's to live truthfully under imaginary curcumstances, and it's a skill you're gonna develop over time and lots of practice. so how do you stop from sounding like you're reading out loud? now this is something to work with a vo teacher on cuz it's easy to mess up & build bad habits and hardre to explain via text. the short of it is you gotta be talking to someone. it's all about who, what, when, where, why, how? who are you talking to? what's going on in this conversation. what type of relationship do you have with this person? have you been through a similar situation? and what's happening in this scene to begin with?

#

part 3:

there could be a couple of interpretation for what's happening in this scene. clearsight could be giving this person one more chance... or maybe she's done altogether. either way there's a rift and you don't like the person whoever you're talking to has become. you met this one person with all these wonderful traits and now they're acting like someone else ruining it. lying to you. you thought you knew them, but you didn't. think of a situation similar to this. how did you react? who was it? now put that particular person and situation on the spot here. imagine you're saying these words to that person who hurt you and talk to that person using the words on the page. maybe put a picture of said person next to the script so you can look at them while talking.

conclusion:

all of these are things to talk to your vo teacher about. it's better to work with your vo teacher who can give you live feedback more than anything. again if you don't have one start looking. i'm sure people on this server can recommend instructors. reading feedback can only do so much. for now read uta hagen's a challenge for the actor and do the exercises in the book. hagen explains this concept better than i do.
