So what's the advice for those of us who don't have deep voices? Is it best to just speak at full chest in our natural tone?
I was asked to do a "movie trailer" type thing and I kept wanting to do the classic Don LaFontaine style, but that's just not my voice. The only way I could mimic it is by going very... "whispery" / "raspy" (sort of the way that Will Arnett talks, where it feels very throat constricted).

Don LaFontaine has a deeper natural speaking voice. Unless you also have a naturally lower voice, it’s not going to be replicable.
However, your lower register is accessible through your diaphragm. You’ll also need more relaxed vocal chords. If you think of a guitar, the lowest notes are on the thicker and more relaxed strings.
The proximity effect can also be helpful with promo work - so having a condenser mic closer to you can make your voice sound a little deeper too, with proper technique.
Are you hoping to get work doing this?
Amateur stuff. Especially in the nsfw community that I run in. I’ve done some indie video game VA work with my natural voice but jw ideas on approaching this format. It came up recently in a community audio collab.
