I read through the Va guild guide and I checked other forums but neither seem to be helping my problem, is it ok if anyone could help me with these?

Also to specify I have a higher voice and I want to expand my voice to do more types of characters because although nice I’m still stuck wither doing kids or stereotypical soft girls in things

We first need to define what we mean by ‘range’. Are we talking about different character voices, or mainstream narrative voice-over projects?

If the former, concentrate on developing your voices. By that I mean having a fluid repertoire so you can adapt your voice with ease to any situation. You should develop the ability to draw on characterizations and accents from your back catalogue to create original, interesting voices.

Make sure you fully own your characters too. You should live and breathe them, so that they are another side to your personality. Voices need to be three dimensional, credible and authentic.

The vast majority of voice-over jobs are in straight narration, where you are using your own voice. Here, tapping into your natural emotions is key. We do this in the real world all the time: if a friend says she is expecting a baby, our tone immediately changes to one of happiness. Likewise our voice will sound concerned and empathetic if another friend informs us they have lost their job.

The key in voice acting is to be able to conjure up all the varied tones and pitches we have inside of us to create the required atmosphere. Need to be authoritative? Then you have to be authoritative.

No problem 🙂

I really do suggest taking a class with Phebe when you can afford to. She does a great job with discussing characterization and tones.

I do a vocal training for singers on YouTube.. there's sooo many. You can actually choose your area of focus based on what you'd like to be able to do with your voice. Increased range strengthen higher voices strengthen diaphragm voices, etc etc.. it all works for us too. It has been a major game-changer for me as far as regaining control of my voice after several years of silence

Also, I always do a 5, and then 10-minute warm up before I get into sessions for the day.. that really helps a lot.. the performance is far more streamlined and "reliable".. I lose far less takes to not yet being "there"
