Voice Authenticity

When voice acting how do I not sound like I’m reading a script. Also how do I find my “voice”. I get that what I hear when I speak differs from what others hear but I find myself exaggerating in the midst of talking.

well, how do you talk normaly when you talking to your family or your friends?

My natural voice is very monotone. I picked up a decent mic a while ago hoping to hear more of my true voice but nope. Now that you mention it lack of confidence might be holding me back

yeah, something we all lack at times and such, do you talk to yourself at all?

improvising scenarios with about anything you can come up with?

thats something i do, and it definitely gives me confidence with the acting part when im alone

I browse reddit and read long posts and listen to myself thru my mic as I speak.

sounds tricky

pacing, walking, and gesturing, things that will help you with your performance, all of those things i do at times, and usually in front of the mirror, i imagine for example a drama moment the betrayal, or the death of a loved one, or just a battle, and then i go back and forth between 2 characters, i feel like that puts you much better in the situation, rather than reading from something that already exists, put yourself into one of your fantasy worlds and make yourself the main character or just a supporting role

you will feel a bit more natural if you for example just act as yourself against any other character that you make up

if you already know how its supposed to sound be as expressive as you can against yourself

the mirror can be your best friend

with this i feel like i have good success at finding how to make it believable, but so far only when i do it at home in my comfort zone, which granted when i do stuff like this its a bit embarrassing if one of my family members catch me talking to myself in a more dramatic or epic manner xD tho they are used to that at this point

so yeah, get out of your comfort zone a bit as well

since that is going to build you confidence
