#Microphone Fading Out Overtime

Hi, I hope everyone reading this is doing well. I'll try to explain my issue as clearly as possible.

I'm new to Garry's Mod and just installed it recently, but I'm having major issues with my microphone.

When I launch the game, the mic usually works at first (though not always — sometimes it's not detected at all), but then it stops working after 30 seconds to 1–2 minutes. It either fades out gradually or stops working completely.

When that happens and I open the Steam Sound Settings (from the in-game overlay), my mic still works in the Steam Voice test menu (used for calls, etc.), but it’s no longer detected in the in-game voice menu. My mic still works perfectly fine in Discord and other apps.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far, but nothing worked completely :

  • Verified that my external mic and headphones are set as default devices in Windows
  • Tweaked input/output settings in Windows and in Steam
  • Set both devices to 2 channel, 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality) as recommended
  • Added +voice_enable 1 +sv_voiceenable 1 -voicerecord to GMod’s launch options
  • Allowed Garry's Mod fully in Windows Defender
  • Set Windows' Communications setting to “Do nothing”
  • Closed Discord before launching GMod
  • Restarted the game (mic works again, but still fades out after some time)

I also noticed this weird workaround:

If I go to Steam > Sound Settings > In-Game Voice and change the default device to my Internal Microphone (but don’t confirm the change), it temporarily resets the glitch and makes me audible again — but only for a while before it fades out again.

🔧 Game version: Chromium x86-64

I’d really appreciate any help! I can send screenshots or do tests if needed — thank you in advance 🙏

TL;DR:
Mic works for ~30s–2min after launching GMod, then fades out or stops completely. Still works fine in Steam Voice settings and other apps (Discord, etc.), but not in the in-game voice menu. Tried all common fixes (sample rate, default device, launch options, Steam settings, etc.). Only weird workaround: switching to another mic in Steam’s voice settings (without confirming) temporarily resets it. Using Chromium x86-64 version.

Any help would be appreciated!

I just saw something while trying to fix the issue , but if i use the [Internal Microphone] , it doesnt cut and on games where i couldnt be heard , i can hear myself (Problem is my internal mic is bad)

But with the external one it does the issue

Could this help resolve it ? Like did it happen to others players for example having a specific microphone stopping work after launch of the games ect.. ? My mic works great everywhere else
