I was sent a map by a friend so that I can edit the map. He sent me all the files I need.

I am using VIDE to get the custom textures onto the map when I am in Hammer but whenever I follow a tutorial. I do exactly as it says. I open the map in Hammer and most of the map is still untextured even though I followed every step

Best way imo is to use mount.cfg. Throw the textures into a new folder with foldername/materials/something/stuff.vmt as the folder structure. Then point mount.cfg to that foldername and give it a mount name.

This way your garrysmod folder stays clean

Anyways, if the map is still untextured after extracting it’s content, it’s probably using the content packed into it in a weird way. I know a few downtown tits edits that have a ton of duplicate textures inside map-specific folders for some reason, likely as a result of decompile degeneration, like what you’d see with jpeg artifacting.

you can use the material replace feature of the face edit dialog to rename materials on the map to known good materials.
