Follows a story of a collapsed Japan after a great disaster that occurred 15 years ago which led to man eating monsters roaming this apocalyptic Japan and limited survivors (mal synopsis summary). You follow two timelines. One occurs with our mc’s Maru and Kiruko they are on the hunt for this place called heaven but they don’t even know exactly what this heaven is or what it represents. The other timeline you follow takes place in what is known as “the facility” it houses special children and are being researched for some grand purpose and takes some slight aot inspiration with this facility having walls that completely surround it and also has a ceiling to where the children don’t know what the outside world is like. The story telling is pretty unique in this anime as it uses a “passive state of unreliability” when we refer to our unreliable narrator. Rather than unreliability being revealed actively like most pieces of media where you are being mislead for a grand twist.
