Here is some info (I only saw the first season, but I think that is OK):
Japan was conquered by the Holy Britannian Empire using Knightmares, revolutionary mecha machines. Japanese people were labeled Elevens and they are being discriminated against. The story follows a young man called Lelouch, an exiled member of the royal family of Britannia. He gets the power of Geass, this power helps him manipulate everyone he wants. He then becomes the leader of the rebellion in Japan.
Why you should watch it: this is a very intriguing suspense anime with a focus on politics. It is a mecha anime, but the story is told through the viewpoint of the commander.
