The boss removed the visible section in two jumps which took him aprroximatly 20 seconds. We had also built the straight section already. Meaning that we needed to pick track up which was imposible because we were all holding something.

Love when that happens.

We played a game last night and the sand boss seemed significantly more aggressive at knocking out patches. He was even knocking out patches before he jumped through them, and then on the next cycle he'd jump through.

This is a skill issue. You need to target the water patches because the worm doesn't like the water. If you guys had a bias towards mining up towards the water, he would have agro'd on you and let you know where not to go. Also as is the curse of being too efficient.

If one of you also go in front to somewhere else from where u guys want to go and get the aggro of the sand worm then you can play more easily without the worm going near the rails and where u get your resources.

You might think the sand worm pops out random places but its more like the normal map where you basically get aggro of the worm.

so someone going far away and getting the aggro off from the train will make it much easier for you to complete the round.

I can confirm when playing solo I usually scout ahead and let the bot build tracks and manage water a bit behind and the worm is always targeting me rather than bot+rails

This is actually not true -- the worm does not "aggro" people on this boss level.

There is a pre-determined "safe" path in this boss level that the worm will absolutely not eat. As soon as a player strays too far from the safe path, the worm will eat that section of the map.

Seems like you guys just got too greedy and built your train too far ahead without knowing where to go. Having one player run ahead to determine what direction the "safe" path is definitely the play for this boss

It was one time for me but there was no safe path as the whole end rail was fully blocked, there was not a single path for me to go through?

i literally had a team mate that was playing way up ahead of us and get the aggro of the worm and the whole path to the end rail was completely blocked.
Is this a bug then?
lucky for me i had a toy engine so we were able to restart but im not joking the whole path was completely blocked.

Yeah, there was a bug a few months ago where the canyon boss wouldn't create a safe path but it has been fixed as far as I know

@turbid crag @unborn galleon there was always a safe path. Because the game need to check resources and other stuff this path is generated in the map generation stage. As long as you keep scouting before building tracks issues like these should not happen.
You should also always try to keep at least one track distance from the end of the map to prevent getting landlocked later on
