#More Social Interactions

Personally, for my taste, the game is sorely lacking in social interactions.
I will list below the lines that are missing for me personally. But I'll note upfront that what's missing is the ability to build up relations with NPCs. It would be very cool if the NPCs we helped, for example, willingly shared information with us or let us visit them.
Along with that, it would be great if the NPCs built relationships with each other as well. It would be cool to suspect someone because they were fighting with a dead guy about a paycheck. Right now, it's almost pointless to think about the killer's motives.

So options for interactions:

  • Ask where NPC was during a certain time period.
  • And who else was there, too.
  • Ask where NPC works and when.
  • Ask for a phone number.
  • A suggestion to go out (more for talking on the phone).
  • Ability to introduce yourself to NPC. That's what polite and non-suspicious people do, yeap.
  • Ask about hobby.
  • Ask about certain details of a NPC's familiar. Like hobby, height, foot size or whatever.

I'd also like NPCs to know how to lie. Especially the killer. It wouldn't be a bad thing if a note with the killer's name on it could lead to a false trail. And we'd need more evidence.

P.S. I apologize in advance if any sentences are worded strangely or overly expressive. I don't write English very well, so I may make mistakes and some things may sound accidentally rude. Although I hope it's not đź’–

I absolutely agree with this. Having more options to speak about would be so much more interactive with citizens. Also having NPCs have slight loss of when/where the suspicious activity was happening or when they saw someone.

One thing I'd like to add is maybe having restrictions on asking certain questions until you have them answer a first.
Ex;

What's your name?

John Smith
Then you can ask for phone numbers, details about themselves, etc.
Or if you ask:
Do you know this person?
Yes, that's John Smith
After that, then you can ask where they last saw them and more details about them.

I love this idea! It'd be great with negative relations too and would give a deterrent to players to not just go breaking into peoples houses and causing fights etc.

Imagine crossing someone on the street or knocking on their door and getting:

  • "I remember you! I'm calling the enforcers!"
  • [Opens the door to you] "YOU!" [Shuts and locks the door]

Game definitely needs an improved dialogue system.

There could be some options for small talk that let an NPC become more relaxed and trusting of you and will answer your questions more/ without lying.

Maybe asking things in the right order can lead to them being more cooperative. Each citizen could have a different personality and you have to figure out what type they are and approach the conversation based on their personality. Not everyone takes bribes and you may have to use your words to convince them to cooperate.

Someone with the “kind” personality could respond better to dialogue options that’s about fun small talk. Someone with the “workaholic” trait could respond better if you steer the conversation to things about their career. If someone has the “untrusting” personality perhaps you need to choose dialogue options that prove you’re a detective and that you have good intentions. Perhaps there could even be a “food loving” personality and they could accept gifts of food or would be more willing to talk over a restaurant dinner if you pay for them. NPCs could have one or multiple personality traits as well.

As well has having the ability to form relationships with npc with a simple “levelling up” friend system.

If you befriend an NPC they’re more like to cooperate or keep a look out for you. Maybe if you befriend a store owner they could call you when they see someone suspicious or next time you see them they could have new information for you. Also the ability get a girlfriend/ boyfriend because why not. (Not sure what gameplay purpose that would serve though)

I would love to buy people drinks at bars to talk to them or build "relationships" having a contact who knows where to find things or people or even someone who might let me into a building because I say hi once in a while is cool.

On this note though, too many people let you search their house. They wont tell you their first name but the guy next door will invite the rando in for four hours to take a shower and search their gunsafe all while they sleep naked like its no big deal.
