C: It would be neat if killers could have partners in crime, who don't do the actual killing, but do cover their buddy's tracks. Some examples would be having someone else go to the weapon dealer for you, so as to not end up in the ledger. Alternatively, another guy goes to turn off the CCTV cameras near thr crime scene before the killer arrives.

Yeah it would definitely feel more like a detective game if you're able to track down accomplices. Or catching a guy you think did it, but then realising they're one of many who helped.
There could be different types of accomplices too like you mentioned. Some help, or if they add hired hitmen, you should be able to catch the hitman and the person who hired them.

While I know murders are the main focus, having stuff like mob families doing other crimes could make investigations lead into other investigations
For example, While investigating a Mob hit you could find more information about that family and their shady dealings.
