In my concept. Dogs cant open doors. Making vents more useful to not open the room the pet is kept in.
This makes just breaking and entering to steal valuables at random less viable as a strat as dogs tend to win melee encounters.
And unless they added a pet store, we wouldnt be able to know who owns a dog prior to breaking in.

This has potential. Dogs could bark to wake up their owners when you trespass. Dogs detect you quicker if you’re stinky.
You could use synthmeat to distract the dog for a while.
