Tobacco use has an inpact on the game rating so it's up to the devs to decide this one

How would it affect the rating? The game already has violence, murder and blood. Not the goriest game in the world ofc but's there is still plenty enough for the ESRB to slap it with the M rating. It would take actual nudity/sexual content to push it over that.

Also alcohol is in the game. The player can get drunk. How would tobacco use result in a stricter rating in that case?

And also, the game isn't even being sold in retail, so it isn't likely to receive a rating in the first place

and if the act of smoking is the scary part then maybe change the smokes to special cyberpunk smokes so technically it isn't "really" smoking.

kinda like how in the fallout games have made-up drugs
