I figure there's probably a bunch of ideas people have to the problem of everyone having their passcode written down next to their nightstand! I'll start with mine. I like that some of them rely on external information like a birthyear, but I noticed some of them say "shred this afterwards". What if there were shredders in offices and when you looked in them you found shredded versions of these notes? It'd give you the numbers, but not necessarily in the right order. This could be made even more difficult by having multiple passcodes jumbled up in there, or expired credit cards adding confounding numbers. Hell any document in the game could be found in a shredder to give you partial information but I think this would be most straightforwardly implemented with passcodes!

Oh I actually had this idea of "everytime you break in/hack a code based device. If you did not cover your tracks like logging off/closing the safe. the owner at some point comes back, checks their usual stuff and goes "WHAT!? I've been hacked/robbed!? I gotta change my code so this won't happen next time"
To add to this, it'd be nice if there were people who didn't write down their passwords but instead you use a tool that is similar to a real life hacking tool. It takes personal data (i.e. what you know about the person) and generates a list of potential passwords to try. It'd be cool if you have the tool (think it's called a ripper), you select the person's passcode you want, then you use the item on a safe or a cruncher. It's very loud and can set off alarms if they have one linked with their cruncher or safe. After a few seconds, it'll either have worked or failed based on if you knew enough about the person to obtain it
I would definitely like if certain people like CEOs or other random people put more effort into securing their information. I'd like there to be a time investment in finding certain things
Lol imagine 2 factor auth XD You steal their physical authenticator and then have to input their 30 second rotating password in as well
to add to this, i would like the passcodes to actually be mandatory for some stuff
being able to barge any door is weird and makes them redundant in some cases
also, removing the password from 'profile' on the cruncher
who keeps the password to their current device just in a visible txt document on their pc
High level stuff could also have 8 to 16 number passcodes. Something a codebreaker would take hours to churn though. It's fast but adding a few more digits would require you to stick around for a few minutes before it hits the right one. Very risky in the places giant passcodes would be found.
that sounds wonderful
I take your point but the answer to that is a looooooooooot of people. Worse, it's notes stickied to the PC. Government employees...entire databases with plain text passwords, but that's real world stuff
no i mean the password to their pc on their pc in a neat profile app with their job info, picture and phone number, it's like storing the safe password in the safe
i get that it could be like the pc's users pc profile but i am unsure why the phone number and stuff are there if that's the case
oh do some big brain thinking on the cruncher such as you select "forgot password" and it'll ask some security questions. if you succeed you can forward the temporary password to your vmail. if you fail, the owner might find it suspicious and call the enforcers. sort of like tripping a silent alarm.
Amazing suggestion! Gluing together strips of paper in order to get a clue / pass code has been an obsession of mine ever since i first played Dark watchmen (wonder if the servers for that are still up lol)
A concerning number of companies lol
I REALLY like the security questions idea
