#Citizens moving in and out of your city

I've mentioned this before, but I think the one thing SoD needs to make the cities truly feel more dynamic is to have the homes and jobs of citizens not be static. If an NPC is killed or arrested, their house/job position shouldn't just remain empty for the rest of time, but have someone else moving into the city to come fill those.

Sidenote: It's rather annoying that stuff like opened cabinets/doors or misplaced objects will stay like that forever, even if the owner of the home you ransacked still lives there.

I agree with thus 1000% as not everyone is gonna want to retire. For me, I want to have a city where I continue to create new relationships and experience a true sandbox. The idea of moving on to the next city isn't in my interests. But eventually the population is gonna shrink and ill be forced to retire.

This is heavily needed in my opinion for those that want long term games.

I would love to see a few month old profile that doesn't have 90% of the city dead. Plus could you imagine getting to the stage where 3 people live in the city and there is a murder case? That would be super funny.

"It's only you and me in this town now... and I know I didn't murder them." XD

Yeah, already a couple weeks into my most recent city, and there are times I have to return to houses I've searched on my first day, only to find them still ransacked, or completely empty due to the previous tennant having been arrested.

Not to mention, after a killer went through his workplace, the only person left at this company is the secretary.

Another cool thing you could do is have arrested citizens eventually get out and move back in. Maybe they kill again or move away and are never seen.

In relation to the arrested persons thing... city really needs a jail/holding cell in the basement of the city hall.

where small time criminals get held for a while and later get released... or the killers hang out for a few days before 'being sent to a different facility' (coughshotandthownintotheseacough)

Ideally, a player should be able to continue a single save game indefinitely, almost like animal crossing in a weird, dystopian fashion. You get to know everyone in your apartment block intimately, yet all the sudden one of them is dead, and a new person shows up to live in their house. Now you have a whole new profile to fill out for that person.

This could even be tied to more dynamic work/NPC relationships. Individuals getting hired/fired/promoted, couples breaking up and moving out of their homes, actual motives for murders. Hell, it could even add misdirection to a case as you find out that the person you are investigating moved out of their home just a couple days ago, with a new tenant living there now, with nothing but the fingerprints of the old person giving you a clue.

#

But at the most basic level just...

#

having people move in when a citizen is removed from the city.

if this sort of thing does get in there needs to be a mechanic for the city's directory. Like the directory only gets updated the 1st of every month when the new books get posted. And some places might not buy the new book right away.

Put a date on the front page of the directory saying something like 'For the Month of X'

I definitely want to have longer saves. I'd love for houses to change. Like, imagine how cool it would be to see a moving truck and the npc grabbing items and moving them to the truck. That or moving items from it... it would add a lot of world building.

ancient marten
#

Probably not a truck since the lore states cares aren't used anymore or at least only rarely. Seeing people with moving boxes set up in their homes though would be a nice touch

Don't need a truck mind you. Just an example. I could see the boxes going to the front door and appearing/disappearing just as easy.

#

But seeing a character move in and out would be cool. Give you a reason to stop and introduce yourself and gather info for later.

Can think of a fun case with this sort of mechanic. Need to find a item... but the person who hid it is long gone. You know that it should be hidden in a secret compartment in their apartment... but now you need to track down the records of where the person used to live, and sneak in while other people are now living there to find the secret thing.

Not sure how long long should one run take, both in game an rl, but I reckon the game isn't intended to be a perpetual simulation.
The can that you dumped will stay there and not wanish by itself.

I think that if you want a thriving city simulation you need people moving in and out

this would be a cool feature

As mentioned by PlayerX, having people move out and allowing their apartment be on sale for the player to buy until it's bought and someone new moves in could be cool, and would lead to rotating apartments being open which in turn would be really fun and useful.

It'd be cool if an NPC in the city could also buy the apartment rather then someone off-city, so that residents in the city itself could potentially move around rather then sticking with their single apartment the whole game or until they move to a new city. Some even turning homeless could be interesting!

I do hope that if implemented, they introduce a slider in the options so we can customize it.
Citizen Migration: Off > 1 Week > 2 Weeks > Monthly > Random
Something like that. So that those who don't want the city constantly changing it's population around don't have to worry.

I think it would be good if you could also sell your own apartment

i suggest an app for crunchers that lets you play a game on it, somehting simple but maybe usefull. maybe like a google for ingame that lets you connect to underground places or forums or send mails... just trowing ideas, il stick to the game one 😄

OH... a hook/rope to get down buildings if you accidently (or not) exit the window on the 101st floor.
