#Tetris-Style inventory management

You know how games such as Resident Evil 4, Gloomwood, Diablo 2 (to name a few) have the ability to make your inventory look like tetris where you can rotate them and put them all together and make them fit?
This would be an awesome way of reworking the inventory system in shadows of doubt for a few reasons:

  1. It's much more immersive: and you're a Detective! so having a briefcase with you would totally be immersive and it would serve a crucial function in the game, not to mention--

  2. The tetris-like inventory system is like a game of its own : Well, this is mostly from personal experience but when i played Resident Evil 4 remake, i took sooo long playing around in the inventory system because i wanted to organize my things, by grouping utilities and guns in one section and healing items and food in the other

  3. ** items would be storable by scale**
Ever found yourself hacking in the middle of the night and then it turns out you couldn't bring a phone-sized door wedge because you had a piece of diamond in your pocket?
Well, the tetris-style inventory would completely eliminate that and fix that problem, leading to more immersion and convenience!

That's all of my suggestions so far! I hope that these suggestion could contribute to the game and i cannot wait to see how this game would go in the next few years, all i know is that this is definitely one of the best games i have ever played

NGL, against this idea. I like the way inventory is just slotblocks. it makes you think about the value of an item more rather than size.

Hell in your example fits the exact thing I'm talking about, you decided the value of the diamond was more worth it than a door wedge to help with the dangers

I'm kinda 50/50, I feel like it would fit in with the atmosphere and theming very well but yea it could throw off balance quite a lot in this game

its one of those things where I think the dev would have to experiment a fair bit to see if they like it and that it fits their vision

Balancing that would be hell too yeah, as it stands inventory is something you have to consider going forward and it makes those +inventory sync disks worth it to grab.

That's true!
I do understand the perspective of value if it's limited slots per item
if it's value, then maybe smaller slots in the suggested inventory would do,
and sync disks can still upgrade them and make it bigger as you progress through the game

Maybe the player gets a rather big inventory, but you then add a "weight"-stat to all items, and the player could then increase their carrying capacity by installing sync disks. Imo this would make more sense than the "sync disk growing your pockets"-system we currently have

Tetris inventories are definitely one of my favorite methods in RPGs, so I'd like to see something along those lines. I just wonder how it could be balanced correctly.

I am really for this idea, simply because it's a staple of immersive sims, but also because that type of inventory management is generally really fun. You really just need to figure out how to balance it via sizes and such, a ballistics vest should definitely be probably one of the largest options while lockpicks, being rather small, could finally get a place in the inventory with max stack sizes small enough to cause inconveniences.
Although occams razor succeeds when it comes to difficulty.

Personally I prefer the simple system we have now. It may be "more realistic" to carry 6 full cups of coffee in your pockets because the Tetris board allows it, but for me the less involved inventory is, the better.

My only wishlist for the inventory is that we get hand slots so we can pick something up and hold it without having to put it in our inventory to do so

I'm not sold on this, however I love the idea of most of your inventory being tied to a briefcase, and THAT is what you improve to get more slots, instead of injecting yourself with Gatorade (how does that even work?). You could carry a lot more gadgets in your case, but it'd take longer to access them.

I'm glad you guys heard me out and let me know and shared pros and cons in this system, i widely appreciate it 🙂

I'm on the side of a tetris style inventory "Stealing that term btw" would not be good for the balance. I do agree with having a briefcase that you have to actually carry to extend your inventory.

I actaully do like the briefcase idea. Sort of feels like the classic spy trope of opening of a briefcase full of gadgets. My thing for that is please let us opening it while it's sat down so we don't have to pick it up to open it

Maybe some sort of system where you can carry however many small items on your person, like a pair of handcuffs. Though for larger, or more numerous objects you can carry around your briefcase. Though the downside is you need to set down your briefcase in order to use certain items or perform specific actions.

I think there could be a good middle ground by implementing the inventory tetris as well, as long as its added in a way that would make players really think about their inventory space and what items they need to bring.
