Welcome to my Grand Finale Tour of R1! Over the next two weeks, I’ll be exploring and documenting the major settlements of R1 and capturing a visual log of them as a photo memory of what we’ve built and accomplished together. I feel it will also be fun, in future years, to look back on our history and read through what our world was like, particularly as Bitcraft continues to grow and evolve.

The first settlement on my grand tour is Elrind. I visited Elrind in the wee hours of the morning Pacific time on February 9, 2026.

Elrind is situated at N1634 E1161 on a lake that straddles both calm forest and pine forest biomes. Additionally, that lake connects into a larger lake to its northeast that provides access to the autumn forest biome, and the river configuration allows for easy access to the ocean. Elrind is strategically well-placed for a number of low- and mid-tier resources.

Elrind is the capital of the Freeren empire, which, at the time of this writing, spans a large segment of R1’s northeast pine forest biome. Led by Hanyodude, Elrind and Freeren have seen steady increases in the settlement’s tier and the empire’s size.

Hanyodude is not the original founder of Elrind. He joined when the settlement was tier 3. It was founded by DaeonVenor, who gave it the name Elrind, because he wanted to name it something Elvish. It used to have a sister settlement called Isengard, and together they decided on their empire name of Freeren, which is a play on the anime Frieren. Hanyodude tells me that Dirt is the local expert on Elrind’s full history.

I had never been to Elrind before today, and when deciding how to get there from my settlement, Yozhik Holm, I decided to take my river to its easternmost extent and then ride the rest of the way on deer. It was not long after I disembarked that I discovered evidence of Elrind. The city’s residents have added elaborate, gorgeous roads throughout their part of our region. Hanyodude himself admitted to me when I spoke to him the evening prior, that the settlement’s roads had been expensive in terms of both time and resources. I wasn’t prepared for the full extent of what he meant, and what I discovered was breathtaking.

When approaching Elrind from the south, one is confronted with a garden and two Rampartes standing watch. One not only gets the impression of “don’t step on the flowers,” but also that Elrind is guarded from harm by the vigilance of its inhabitants. The natural beauty draws one in, but at the same time we can’t help but be in awe of the power on display. The empire banner at the crook of the V-shaped roads before the enormous flower bed serves as the fulcrum of this power dynamic.

The immaculate tile decoration is not limited to Elrind’s roads. Each district of Elrind uses a different color of paving tile, and all are arranged in intricate patterns. This adds a distinct character to each district.

The layout is compact, but functional. Hanyodude told me that achieving this was a challenge for him, particularly the docks and the residential district. I’m happy to report though, that this effort paid off. Elrind is navigable and functional, but also efficient with its use of space.

Elrind is seen empty in these photos, because I’m a weirdo who goes to bed at 7 pm and wakes up at 2 am. Having taken these screenshots in the wee hours of the morning, there were no other residents available for me to interact with. However, Hanyodude assures me that people who keep normal waking hours can expect to find Elrind teeming with numerous extraverted residents, who are friendly and eager to engage in light-hearted banter. They even have a daily ritual of playfully roasting their leader. Hopefully, this custom will be maintained in the new world.

Hanyodude’s favorite moment in Elrind involves his settlement’s Christmas tree. After Raessi had built it, Hanyodude moved it across town. When Raessi logged in and saw the change, she announced to the settlement, “Which Grinch ass [expletive] stole my tree?!!” This one example of playful banter, however, underscores the fact that, appropriate for a light-hearted crafting game, Hanyodude and his settlement members know how to have fun.

The standout feature of Elrind is its use of various different colors of tiles in elaborate patterns and the significant thought and skill put into crafting a space that is elegant, efficient and functional. I feel that I learned a lot about settlement design just by seeing what Hanyodude had accomplished.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Elrind, and I look forward to seeing its next iteration in the new world!
