I saw some arguing in R8 chat just now about claim sniping due to an owner/group stopping playing and a single player leaving it to decay to try and take ownership, and I had a thought. Rather than immediately opening a claim to anyone taking it, there could be a short grace period (even just a day or two), for the claim to be reclaimed by a member of the claim first, before being opened up to the public. Removes the annoyance of a sort of "zombie claim" where people can keep it going but can't change it if permissions were not given, and would remove the worry of someone sniping it if a single remaining member wanted to take ownership after the rest of the group disappear.
#Member only grace period for claim decay

Wouldn't necessarily stop the claimsniping problem. Most of these settlements have open join-slots and the claim snipers join these slots in order to keep an eye on the supply through the claim window.
wouldn't stop it all for sure. but it'd reduce the problem for small private claims. not a fix but an improvement basically
idk if there really is a way to ever fully "fix" it. maybe some kinda tiered list where it opens to people who joined earliest first and works down the list? seems like a bunch of complexity though
great idea. it should be implemented to give co owners prescendce over people with lesser perms
Maybe a system where supplies can go into the negative, but once it is below 0 co-owners can take over, then at a higher negative amount officers, and then at a even higher negative amount any members and finally non-members.
Issue im seeing here is co owner who wants to steal the town forces a upgrade in the research with the perfect amount of supplies left over to bring it low enough take it and resupply
other ingame option but not entirely fool proof is wall off the town center and wait for it to decay, most likily only town members have thier homes set there
if a co-owner wants to steal the town you have bigger problems though, they can already demolish/loot everything if they wanted to.
I agree. I think the decay thing should be reworked into a system for ownership to transfer after an afk. The quickest easiest option is the above, just create a few different decay points where co-owner/officer/member/anyone can take the claim instead of all getting the option at the same time. In the distant future I'd like something as little more involved like citizenship and voting stuff but that's a future low prio thing. Right now just add some checkpoints for different perms to be able to claim before anyone else can and hide supplies for claims you aren't a part of on Bitjita sooner rather than later
I've been discussing this with loads of people in-game (like Plav), it would save a ton of frustration.
I was thinking there could be a hierarchy of designees who would take ownership of a claim if the owner has been offline for a certain period of time rather than supply level. That way you avoid the issues mentioned above, you know exactly who's taking over, and you have control over said process.
