I found something similar outside our bank. I was asking around in our Discord and it turned out it was some person cleaning out his bank... makes me wonder, though. Your screenshot shows considerable value, which could easily be sold for quite a few gold pieces.

it might just be multiple people, if you build your pathing in a certain way people always approach from the same side I see the same with piles of treesap and tree seeds
