I’m hoping it’s similar to the mechanics in Valheim
I'd like to know as well. I'm a veteran sailor and racer and I'd like to see good sailing in games. Valheim had a good start with the steering controls and accurate points of sail. However, the wind direction was way too erratic and they missed the chance to add tidal flow between the islands.
During the early development of BitCraft we started with implementing a simple version of most game mechanics, in the case of sailing as a part of movement in general.
Based on this first step we add and test additional complexity like effects from the environments or specific mechanics associated with vehicles or mounts.
How the end result will look, will heavily depend on our test results and feedback. We are happy to introduce complex game mechanics but as the saying goes "The proof is in the pudding".
So we are focused on making sailing fun, not making it overly complicated just for the sake of it.
