This map was inspired by Made in Abyss manga & anime, I wanted to make it more vertical, but with the game's height limitations I decided to make just 4 layers
The Abyss is currently observed to consists of 4 layers, each with their own characteristics and challenges your beavers need to overcome
1st layer: The Parting of the Styx
The highest level of the Abyss where the River Styx, which is the only river flowing into the Abyss, splits into 2 smaller rivers before flowing into a waterfall. The smaller River Agori flows out of the Abyss, while the bigger, and calmer River Iremia flows into the 2nd layer and ultimately rejoins the River Styx at the 4th layer of the Abyss. This area receives a lot of sediments from the splitting river creating a fertile delta rich with plant life. Your beavers can also tap into the strong currents of Styx and Agori with water wheels to generate power. The surrounding woods may also be exploited for constructing your first buildings. However, with the limited space around the riverbanks, you may need to get creative with you positioning
2nd layer : The Riverbank
Pressing forward from the river delta, you will reach the second layer of the Abyss, a wide fertile land along the River Iremia. This riverbank is by far the most ideal place in the Abyss to cultivate food for your beavers. However, since the river flows away from the starting district, you may need to create a new district to manage your farms efficiently
3rd layer : The Ghost Town
If you follow the River Iremia downstream, you will eventually reach a forest of maple trees, this forest is the entrance into the 3rd layer. Notice as you explore further, the trees are getting dryer and more dead, that means you're in the right path. As soon as you exit the forest, you will see towering ruins of iron, which can be scavenged to provide iron for your settlement. There are more ruins on the other side of this layer, but you need to construct a bridge to cross the gap in front of the waterfall. There has been some rumors among beaverkin that these ruins were made by an ancient civilization of humans, the purpose of this buildings are shrouded in mystery.
If you ask a Folktail, they'll say this was a place of healing for ancient humans, the sound of waterfall has been known to provide a calm and serene atmosphere even among beaverkin, so it must be the same way with ancient humans, or so they think. If you ask an Iron Teeth, they think this Ghost Town used to be a facility that generates power, some Iron Teeth would even go as far as suggests that the River Styx itself was an artificial canal and the waterfall was a huge ancient dam created by ancient humans. These claims are of course hogwashes and malarkeys, because everybody knows that the only people who can construct dams and canals are beaverkin
