The AppImage format is currently the only way for Linux users to install Lunar Client. Although AppImage functions, it falls short of what many Linux users expect from contemporary applications in terms of system integration, sandboxing, and update management. As a daily driver user of Arch Linux, I believe that "appimage" should be avoided because of its instability, as we know that some people enjoy min-maxing.
For Linux users, adding official Flatpak support (through Flathub, yay, or something similar) would greatly enhance the experience by offering:
- Improved system integration (icons, permissions, and automatic app menu entry) Sandboxing and security (restricted file and system resource access)
- Simpler updates (managed via Flatpak rather than manual downloads)
