this is disallowed by almost all major servers and has a high chance to ban on Hypixel and MMC. I highly doubt they'd add this as lots of people would get false bans.

viaversion and viabackwards are for servers and if you look at the suggestion tags it’s obvious that this suggestion is for the smp and not for the client or hosted worlds
(clientside there is only viafabric and viafabricplus)

i’m almost 100% sure that hosted worlds is just two people connecting via a proxy so this would need to be implemented clientside. Adding ViaVersion and ViaBaxkwards is extremely complicated as you need to know what changes in packets occurred between versions, then remap them to the version you’re actually using. Not only is there significant changes between some versions such as named packets in 1.20 and id based packets in 1.8, it also adds a lot of unnecessary overhead relative to the task.

fyi, people use viaversion to bypass hypixel’s anticheat logging in on 1.20 and then using 1.8 combat packets to bypass the prediction checks. This has since been patched by banning the use of ViaVersion’s Detectable packets. There are still some variants which bypass but for the most part it flags.

you can’t use any of the new features such as blocks, items or other functionality that isn’t in the officially supported version

all ViaVersion does is translates the packets into a version the original server is running, there’s no benefits to actually using it unless you’re creating a network of multiversion compatible games which in itself is a huge overhead and significantly decreases performance

Minecraft server hosting providers allow ftp access, so you're not limited to a set of plugins they want you to use. Besides, via is very well known and is open-source afaik + available on spigot
On top of that, lunar smp probably runs on a private server rather than a common minecraft server provider

so they got full control over it

Personally I feel like this doesn't make much sense since the point of an SMP is enjoying what Minecraft offers in survival in that specific version. The only thing adding viaversion would do is make the game much more confusing and mess up PvP, building, etc.

this wouldn’t be an issue if only viaversion is added because then you can only join with 1.21.3+ for example
(viaversion only allows using the version of the server and newer versions)
viabackwards shouldn’t be added because of new features that might be broken (viabackwards is the one that allows older versions to be used)

i don't understand why people need everything simplified when it's so easy to use the correct version for the mode you're playing. It's not difficult at all to select a version especially in clients like Lunar and Badlion.

the problem is that 1.21.2 and 1.21.3 (the only versions supported at the moment) are very unpopular, everyone uses 1.21.0/1, 1.21.4, 1.21.5 or 1.21.6/7 if they play 1.21

There is a configuration setting in Viaversion to restrict client versions which are allowed to connect to your server.
So theoretically, the hosts could add major 1.20/1.21 versions and block all other versions from joining without causing major security issues as they can block all other versions except 1.21.0, 1.21.1, 1.21.4, 1.21.5, 1.21.6 and 1.21.7 etc....

And Viaversion and Viabackwards will handle the rest

And not all of us have fast SSDs that can run Minecraft super fast, some people could have super old PCs or laptops that take a long time to run, so leaving and joining another Minecraft version could be slow, ESPECIALLY if there are crashes happening

In older versions, there may be bugs regarding connecting, playing or etc.. so this can cause major security issues as players may risk the entire server just by being on an older version of the game and using bugs like that one bug where filling a shulker box filled with books that contain a lot of letters that ban people, including admins.
