give users the option to set up a custom domain for their hosted world. could work by asking the user to set up a CNAME record on their domain's dns.

fire idea

Interesting idea, but seeing as how Hosted Worlds is designed to work as a close replacement for the "Open to LAN" feature, this ventures in a direction that I'm not sure Hosted Worlds will go in

#

Just my opinion tho

it would still go through the backend of lunarclient.world while having a feel of customizability.

Also would require having to moderate domains ^

yeah it would require a world filter
with the current implementation it just uses mojangs username word filter because its just the players username

by custom domain, I meant that the user has to use their actual domain name. e.g. myworld dot mydomain dot com

#

I don't ask for custom subdomain ability

#

therefore, even if the domain name is inappropriate, lunar client won't have any responsibility since it's the user's property

Just redirect a custom domain to <username>.lunarclient.world

#

Adding this as a feature directly into Lunar Client would not make sense given your explanation, for the following reasons;

  • If it's added into the client, it will be official and require moderation or strenuous filtering,
  • If it still requires a user to purchase and own a custom domain, the feature relies on a third party variable, and does not seem fitting to add into the client

it's like how custom domains work on other services

#

or link in bios, if that helps you understand better in a way

#

I respect your decision tho and won't bother any further

There's many way to redirect a custom domain to an existing domain

I also doubt it's gonna work with no issues even with cloudflare workers

#

it would be a fancy implementation if Lunar allowed you to set up your world behind a custom domain, but I get the concerns you're talking about

Yes but as soon as we implement the feature of allowing these subdomains to be applied inside the client, it automatically applies liability. Someone sets their custom domain to something extremely vulgar or offensive, then shares it around that they did it on Lunar Client- that's something we'd be held accountable for in the public eye
