#hosted worlds custom domain ability

fire idea
Interesting idea, but seeing as how Hosted Worlds is designed to work as a close replacement for the "Open to LAN" feature, this ventures in a direction that I'm not sure Hosted Worlds will go in
Just my opinion tho
lunarclient.world already "proxies" the LAN connection. the CNAME record would serve the same purpose.
it would still go through the backend of lunarclient.world while having a feel of customizability.
No one helping me
if people could decide what their hosted world domain was then this could cause issues when someone uses the username of someone else for the hosted world domain
a world is hosted by one player so it makes sense that its username.lunarclient.world and this makes it easy for other players to remember
Also would require having to moderate domains ^
yeah it would require a world filter
with the current implementation it just uses mojangs username word filter because its just the players username
by custom domain, I meant that the user has to use their actual domain name. e.g. myworld dot mydomain dot com
I don't ask for custom subdomain ability
therefore, even if the domain name is inappropriate, lunar client won't have any responsibility since it's the user's property
Well.... in that case, they can already do this, no?
Just redirect a custom domain to <username>.lunarclient.world
Adding this as a feature directly into Lunar Client would not make sense given your explanation, for the following reasons;
- If it's added into the client, it will be official and require moderation or strenuous filtering,
- If it still requires a user to purchase and own a custom domain, the feature relies on a third party variable, and does not seem fitting to add into the client
won't work, you'd have to use a service like cloudflare workers and proxy everything to the lunarclient.world domain
as I said, there's no moderating cause it's the user's property
it's like how custom domains work on other services
or link in bios, if that helps you understand better in a way
I respect your decision tho and won't bother any further
I'm saying that if Lunar Client adds this inside the client as a feature, this would automatically apply liability, so moderation/filtering would be required. If it's something to be used optionally to the default IP, then I don't see this needing to be a feature within the client.
You just said it won't work, then explained how it would work 😭
There's many way to redirect a custom domain to an existing domain
I was explaining how no moderation is needed because the subdomain won't be on lunar-owned domains
I also doubt it's gonna work with no issues even with cloudflare workers
it would be a fancy implementation if Lunar allowed you to set up your world behind a custom domain, but I get the concerns you're talking about
Yes but as soon as we implement the feature of allowing these subdomains to be applied inside the client, it automatically applies liability. Someone sets their custom domain to something extremely vulgar or offensive, then shares it around that they did it on Lunar Client- that's something we'd be held accountable for in the public eye
Many people I know set up custom domains for servers running cloudflare, tcpshield, or anything similar
