VIP ranked members should be able to change their nickname

+ Easy to moderate since audit log exists, perm can be removed if it causes too many problems
+ if a user has chatted for that long you should give them the basic function of changing what their name displays as in your disc

Possible Issues + counters

- People can abuse this :

There’s like what, less than 10 vips?
That means there’s more staff members than vips.. staff can currently moderate a 200k member server so 10 or whatever members should be a walk in the park (audit log also exists)

- Whats the point?

If someone’s talked for that long, at least give them the ability to change their name? Personally, I was surprised when I learned VIPs didn’t get their own dark blue lunar moon colour in game (if someone suggests that/has then ping me i’ll upvote lol) so this’d be a great feature albeit small

For anyone saying there would be issues with abuse

Members with no rank (nitro, lunar +, vip) can change their display name which will change their name in this server already. Members with ranks cannot do this as theyve been nicknamed by the bot with a tag for their rank which overrides their changes in display name. Basically, the majority of this server can change their nickname already by changing their display name. Adding this ability to vips wont result in “too much abuse for the staff to deal with” it’s like 7 people or smth. Staff moderate 2k + names daily.

tl;dr getting lunar plus, nitro or vip rank stops you from being able to change your nickname

vips get lunar+ it’s a discord leveling system not a client leveling system. instead of this they can add a command into the bot and add a cooldown you can only change your username once every 2 weeks or month that way they can filter inappropriate usernames. leveling system already gives people incentive to talk you get a bunch of free stuff on your way to vip and you would know that cuz u don’t stop yapping

honestly if someone talked for that long they already know there isn't a reason to put an inappropriate nickname that's going to get em in trouble. Not fully against it but also it's not hard to get your name changed by a staff member. There's always someone online that could change it for you.

A lot of the VIPs are also trolls so I can't say I trust them too much with permissions like that. They were already on the verge of losing reaction perms.

I do believe it's okay to try and see how it goes though.

I'm not going to open a new suggestion as I find this related (it's about VIP perks) and this is open for futher discussions, so it would be cool if other gif websites were also allowed for VIPs (such as giphy, as well as gifs uploaded to discord).

As for the nicknames, based on your messages in the other thread https://discord.com/channels/555932873798975568/1232786105502269493 I see potential for a nickname system too. A command like /nickname that allows you to request a nickname (or request your nick to be cleared), it would send it to a staff-only channel, and staff would be able to apply it with the click of a button.

That would allow people with ranks to change their names based on display if they wished to

And the majority of the server does that anyway already, it’s just the tags the bot nicks you with prevent you from changing your name any further

unless you left and rejoined which in the case if nitro iirc, removes the boost which ends up neither being beneficial for lunar in any way nor convenient for the user
