This might be the dumbest and most useless suggestion...but just think about it
When im on a server and looking at discord, editing or even when im trying to make a video i sometimes leave my minecraft open at the background. Now im lazy, but what if we had a keybind or a shortcut like CTRL + [a random key like P, L or something] that would instantly mute/unmute minecraft without manually opening the whole music and sound settings. I might just be lazy but for me this could be useful :P

That would be even worse that muting the game manually. Like the point is to mute minecraft easily, not to not hear anything 
Ex. I wanna start editing and someone starts spam hitting me for no reason. You will simply go to mc and press a button like L,P or + or anything you wish [Or a Combo like CTRL + P] and it will simply mute the game without messing up your settings
