You could use the Damage Tint mod to do this, it makes your screen red from the edges if you are low on health

Thats called "Health Indicator", its a row of hearts at the bottom of the screen, if there are no hearts left, you die which is bad. Use healing anytime, but don't use it when all of the hearts are there, and make sure to use it if most of the hearts are gone.
