Yeah, so why else would you need it, cos it they don't hit you then how will lunar know that the player can reach them?

This wouldn’t work. Even though there’s lag on the server side, the client still translates entity-player position locally. Basically, once the server hit packet reaches your computer, your entity has already moved a bit causing inaccurate reach detection. It’s not like lag is always stable or else this wouldn’t be an issue.
