Everything was going well, until I killed his Riprider and he somehow still managed to command it
I thought it was just my game lagging but apparently it can be seen on replay also

It happened because (Don't call me a nerd, it is just my theory) the enemy pressed the retreat button and the rip rider died at the same time which caused the game code to break.
