There are different maps with its own features in it. Each map in 1v1 should have different types of gimmicks to make the battles having more diversity.

Here is just a few examples:

Desert = Each player’s side have 2 extra gold nodes. (Ignore the gold rush map example)

Snowy = A snow storm is cast on the entire battlefield every 1 minutes. Players can use Surge to their advantages and make it more of a useful spell.

Night = A random amount of deads (1 to 4) on each player’s side will spawn as reinforcement every 2 minutes.

Woodland = Bushes will appear on the battle letting each players hide their unit in them without being seen by the other player. Units can be revealed by Illuminate.
