Hello everyone,

I have an Acer Aspire 5 (A515-58M-705Z) Laptop with an Intel Core i7-1355U, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD and an Intel Iris Xe graphic-chip.

I experienced severe FPS drops while playing games and just realised that those issues only occure when my laptop is plugged in.
Normally it should run better when plugged in because it has an direct energy input, right?

I wanted to ask you guys if you know anything that could cause these problems.

Thanks alot in advanced!

are you playing on a flat surface or on your lap while plugged in? How's cooling and temps?

You might want to check the Power Plan settings. The laptop "knows" when it is plugged in. You can specify different behaviour for battery or plugged in modes.

@digital glacier the laptop/keyboard is slightly elevated when you open the screen but it's sitting on a wood desk

#

I don't know where I can check temperature/fan curve because it shows nothing in the task manager

#

@wispy plover but what should I change there, the power saving mode is deactivated and you can hear that the laptop is working harder

#

I don't know what settings I should change there

When you experience the drops, is the battery at 100% or is it actively trying to charge?

If the power plan is fine, it sounds like a thermal throttle issue.

The CPU/GPU is probably working in a higher power level when plugged in.

The frame pacing issues are the CPU /GPU slowing down in an attempt to cool down.

I would set an fps limit to prevent it from running at max power.

If the limit doesn't work, try reducing the game graphics settings to make it easier for the system.

@digital glacier it happens when the battery is charging aswell after it hits 100%

#

@wispy plover alright thx allot, im gonna try that

#

but the settings are actually set to low-mid and the monitor is only 60hz

I see,

Make sure she isn't trying to get 100 fps or something
