The laptop most likely has an HDMI output. If you want to record another device you will need something like a capture card.

yeah, very few laptops had hdmi input, that was a very niche feature. capture cards can be had relatively inexpensively, but those are designed for passthrough video, and not for using a laptop as a display for the PS3
