I have a 2020 Asus ROG Zephyrus M15 which has the i7 10750H. As of lately, it appears to be power throttling. The CPU frequency will drop from 4.1-2 when boosting to 0.78 which makes the entire system feel and run slow. I have looked at and ruled these out. I also checked throttlestop to confirm if it was a tpl thing and it was. Every time it passes or is near the max TDP, that is when it starts to drop. I don't know if this is supposed to be normal or not. From my research, it looked mixed when looking for answers. Max TDP for this processor is 45W I believe
Checked temps. It appears not to be a temps issue. Sometimes it happens when it is idle (at 50- 60 degrees) I have re-applied the thermal paste (which was initially LM but didn't want to deal with the issue of applying it since it's risky when it comes to applying) and also have a cooling fan. Also, it happens inconsistently. It happens with the same configurations done to the laptop. It will happen once, comes back to 4ghz there about then goes back. On other days, it will consistently boost when needed with no drops.
I did a Vbios flash for my GPU which is a 2070 Max-Q (Refresh Model) which allowed my GPU to run at 115 watts instead of the stock 90 watts it runs at. The issue happened a lot more consistently around the time I first did it. (It happened occasionally before). I managed to revert back to the stock Vbios but it still persists.
I reinstalled Windows. I thought it was an issue with Windows but after a clean install, it still persists.
Used a different power adapter. I used the charger of someone who has a G15. I thought it was a faulty charger. But the issue still persists. I don't know if that is a reasonable factor to look into though since my power adapter is supposed to provide 230 Watts and his is only 185 Watts.
And also the only workaround is to restart but there is a 50/50 chance that it actually solves it. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Any help will be appreciated.
