I know first gen memory controllers and stuff can be unstable and such but I just bought a new ram (ddr5) kit that I made sure was compatible with my motherboard via model number and it still does not run at advertised speeds (6000 cl30) with XMP I and II and I’m starting to think it’s because I have a 13400 but I might be wrong so I want to ask to see if anyone knows the answer. Oh btw it runs at 4000 MHz instead of 6000.
#can the 13400 limit my ram speeds

cpu is stable up to 4800 DDR5
does your xmp profile support it?
but i don't think you should really pair 6000MHz ram with a 13400f
dang
Do you mean like does it say 6000 then the timings cl30
I can manually set it to 4800
yea
whats your mobo
Rog strix b760i
I made sure my ram kit was supported with model number then copy and pasting into the mobo websites thing
can you set it more than 4800?
Yeah but it just doesn’t do anything after applying
I had it to XMP 2 100:100 1:2 6000mhz
well since this isn't a K I think ram overclock is locked to a point, so you can only get to like 6000-6400MT/s
id be fine with 5600 tbh
5600 will be fine, does it work?
nope
I haven’t tried under 5600
because I always assumed it would stay 4800 no matter what
I gotta do something I will be back though
try to do 5000 first to confirm that its indeed a CPU limit
if its a CPU limit, don't be disappointed you wouldn't've gotten much difference putting 6000mhz ram on a 13400f anyway, just save it for your future upgrades.
this is just confusing, it shouldn't be limited at all, but somehow it is? something wrong, mobo is fine
the cpu shouldn't limit the XMP speeds, but it does idk
try different XMP profiles.
Only shows me one (6000 cl30 with the timings) but I can always manually create one
yeah then its prob limited, shouldn't be but I don't know.
Maybe this can help?
someone in another server told me to take a picture of the ihs of it to find out sometbing
alright
yeah its not worth troubleshooting to get 6000 on a 13400
no reason to do it either
So I should just try 5000 but if it doesn’t work just try to do 4800
go for it
since it reads as 4000 in the os
alright
Tbh ima just keep applying until it stops at some point
As long as it’s as fast or faster than ddr4 3600 cl18 in gaming I don’t really mind much
Nah Teamgroup, the 120 usd rgb one in black. Also isijt vengeance ram fine on ddr5?
some have reported issues
yeah then its a cpu issue I believe
cuz nobody tried to use 6000 on a 13400 you're going too far
i figured
I would return my 13400 and get a 12600k instead but if There is little to none performance gains from that I don’t really want to
I will just keep the ram kit and use it for future upgrades
yea
just totally overkill for a 13400
alright I will try 5000
if its on the return window I would've just suggested returning it and getting a 13600k instead of the ram upgraade
whats your gpu btw
a770
eh I mean I could do that but I’m fine with the 13400
Plus that’s like 296 usd
around 100 difference of the 13400
yep
5000 worked
no ami error screen after applying it took me straight to windows
didint check task manager tho
increase it till it don't work no more
Yeah when I get home in 7 hours that’s what I’m gonna do
👍
I’m just gonna keep going until the Ami screen or the yellow ram light goes on
