here is something that might surprise you, all 11th gen and 12th gen CPUs (not the -F variants) already do accelerated AV-1 decoding with QuickSync

maybe even 10th gen and before, not sure... You can look that up.

and encoding with tGPU is likely on the cards for MTL.

And in task manager it's already called video encoding and video decoding (there is even a duplicate). I don't believe you need to discriminate by codec since a lot of the math is similar

Yea. Video processing is a function of the iGPU.

youve got the spirit but you are kinda off, everything after 11th gen supports av1 decoding except the f variants. 15th gen will probably have encoding too
