Hello All, hit a bit of nostalgia anyone else miss the late 2000s when the laptops with cool designs on the back? If so throw up your favorites.
I have that laptop! I thought I was the coolest kid in university for having a presentation remote built in. The laptop itself was terrible. I had to reflow the processor twice with a copper penny. And I still ended up replacing the motherboard when the VRMs blew up. The battery was terrible too and failed after a year. It still works though; I run Linux on it sometimes.
I think that laptop was the reason I never touched an AMD product ever again.
XD, Priceless and my Intel Version was a little trooper but it did eventually give up the ghost after about 5 years of good usage.
Chuck E. Cheese or Flop E. Cheese? Either way, this is insane. https://gizmodo.com/chuck-e-cheese-floppy-disk-pizza-arcade-1850198498
Watch their new and improved system get hacked on the first day. If it works, don't upgrade. That's my philosophy.
Could you use it to edit saves?
You can hex edit saves iirc
Datageneral One Model 2T. One of the very first "true" laptop. Powered by an Intel 8086 (and it still works)
Oh wow
@fallen karma - here.
Also, since you wanted it, Jack...I haven't found, but posting here since this is an active channel.
Asrock m266a, the board you wanted.
In case someone knows, they'll hopefully turn up. 🙂
I ended up finding it actually
A mate in Mexico was able to help me get my hands on it
Damn, noice!
However my ct-479 adapter exploded when I attempted to test it out soooo
Like fire and flames
The adapter is gone
Some how
The board survived this though
Thing was like damn bro there’s a problem?
How did you get an adapter on fire???
Just glad it didn't take everything else with itself...
yah
the board is more or less impossible to replace
the adapter while it will cost a small fortune
it can be replaced
some day
im on the hunt for something else that while not quite as good
is more likely to work
there is a particular gigabyte board a mate from Taiwan is trying to get me
that can take 1mb cache p4 mobile cpus
and has the older version of the sis651 chipset
meaning it has uni agp
Uni?
universal agp
meaning it supports both voltages
1.5 and 3.3
agp 2x and 1x operate at 3.3 volt 4x and 8x are 1.5 volt
3dfx cards are all agp 2x meaning they require that 3.3 volt support otherwise death happens
😖
there are some boards that have "fake" uni agp slots
And you can still use any card up to 8X due to universal.
meaning there not keyed for 1.5 volt only
but are
so if you plug a 2x card into them
kaboom
Damn...
and no
well yes and no to your question
so uni agp is only 4x
you can plug most 8x cards into 4x slots
later gen ones that are not natively agp and use a bridge from pcie to agp onboard the pcb may not however
Yea, fair. Might not be compatible, or be blocked out.
just compatibility issues mostly
last agp cards were made in 2009 and tbh idk why they were even made that long
since agp was effectively dead as of 2004
People do be usin' old stuff, though.
so funny thing was
if you still had as system that was agp only for some reason at that point
it was far too bottlenecked to even really take advantage of faster gpus
but back to the gigabyte board
im not sure how the vrm will take having me overclocking a 100 watt p4 on it
just have to watch closely and add heat sinks if needed
the vrm on my epox board that i managed to fix for athlon xp gets pretty toasty running a 1.8v vcore
however sadly as much as i want to love athlon xp p4 simply murders it
Well...then maybe stick to stock and then only minutely OC it?
Yea, but if the board goes...well...
it wont
ive fully recapped it
the issue i have is beyond a point i can not overclock higher
because i need an atx power supply with a spec that does not exist
this motherboard unlike all modern boards
does not take cpu power via 12v
why boards with this chipset never got the 12v cpu power input idk but your stuck using 5v power for cpu power
and when you can easily draw over 120 watts overclocking athlon xp
plus the fact you share it with 3.3 volt
no power supply has a 5v rail big enough
while some old ones do
ive had one that had a 50amp 5v rail
units like that are of insanely low quality
Even if it did...if you're sharing 5V and 3.3...that's not going to work out over a single rail.
Actually...since there's more than a few engineers here, maybe they can help you jury-rig something using some unorthodox means?
cus i dont need a crazy amount of power for 3.3 volt
cus voodoo 5 or voodoo 5 6000 use a 12v power input so they don't rely on 3.3 volt purely for power
i know how to solve the problem in theory
its just not easy and very expensive
ive drawn up plans to build what im calling a 5v rail booster
More power through the same rail.
which would basically wire in an external massive 5v power supply
into the 5v wires in an atx power connector
Or you can use multiple PSUs.
nah
cus 5v power all comes from one place
the 24/20pin
you can't plug in multiple 20 pins
yes sorta but its kinda messy
Better than expensive, as long as safety exists.
Plus, like I said, ask here in #general or #hardware...there'd definitely be a better way to do it.
the idea would be to use a bunch of mechanical relays to automatically enable and disable the output of a 75 amp 5v power supply
Or electronic, for automated/easier control.
it would enable the output
when you pressed the power button on your motherboard
and the reason its better to do it using a single source is it makes sure the 5v lines are dedicated to just the external unit so the main psu wont be delivering any 5v power into the board
less chances for things to go wrong
Isolation...smort.
And if something happens, you can shut the external down without problems.
id just have to buff the wire gauge of the 5v inputs
And not blow your basement up.
On that note...it's too late, I GTG.
Good chat, nice to see you around. And trust me, ask around here, people'll help. 🙂
the goal is to build a 5v psu capable of supply enough 5v power to allow for unlimited overclocking the only thing that would stop you at that point would be the traces inside the pcb melting

Well, like I said...don't blow yourself up... 😆 Laters. 👋
