Before Optical transistors we will have optical interconnect which will save a lot of power for interconnect which would be important for HPC long before we use light to calculate

Intel labs are researching this

they typically research things >10 years away from commercialisation.

They are doing silicon photonics for interconnect + compute at the moment AFAIK. So Id say expect photonics in the way you put it to be >10 years out.

The possibilities of photonics are really cool and hopefully we get photonics based interconnects soon at a minimum 🙃
