The error is in line 9, not in line 8.
The empty lines have nothing to do with it, removing the empty lines doesn't help with the offset.

I ran it through a couple online interpreters and the error message mentioned the correct line in all of them so it doesn't seem to be a universal issue with this type of syntax error.
