I play handheld or couch gaming via game streaming most of the time, and only sit at my actuall Desk for BAR. Every other game is gamepad. Is there any gamepad support development in the works?

Long ago game developers tried to convert RTS type games to play them on consoles with gamepads, it just is not the type of control you need for these type of games and they all flopped. Mouse offers the fast and precise control a d-pad or stick can't and the keyboard offers a lot of keys, which this game requires for good control.

Have you ever tried playing an RTS game on a gamepad? Modern gamepads for PC offer a way to map your controls and I would think you'd be able to setup a custom set of bindings for BAR with the software they provide, but I think you're going to find it rather difficult to play with a gamepad and will abandon the idea. And given people already have a means to do it themselves, there isn't anything really for BAR developers to do in that regard, and especially no reason to spend their time on it if no one is going to bother using it when they could just use a mouse and keyboard instead. Not sure if they've added it since, but for a long time they haven't even had an easy built in way to customize controls, so that would be a much higher priority I'd think before even considering doing anything related to gamepad's specifically.

But if you disagree and give it a try and it somehow works well enough for you, feel free to share any tips you have here for others.

There was a guy making a widget that implemented most commands as a ping wheel, it was very interesting. It could work well for gamepads.
