One of the biggest challenges facing both new plays and old is the "17 OS" of the new player. It is incredibly frustrating playing with a "17 OS" player that does not know what a T2 Mex is. It is also frustrating for the new player as they are very likely to lose thier first multi-player games and/or get yelled at by thier team mates.
A possible solution for this issue is requiring a few AI placement games before the player is allowed to play in ranked lobbies. In these games would would track a bunch of stats allowing us to more closely generate a true OS score for the new player. This is not my original idea I got inspired by the Age of Empires 2 creator Spirit of the Law

Of course different metrics would be needed in BAR but we would figure these out by asking a bunch of players of know OS to play these same matches and determine what metrics correlated best with Higher OS.
One of the issues arise system like this would face would be the gradual shift of OS away from the intended average of 17 OS. This could be resolved by giving the new player a "ghost OS" which is given to other players in thier first few lobbies to maintain that 17 OS average.
Ideally these games would be against a few different AI, some very easy and some moderately difficult.
It's no secret that new players trying ranked for the first time can be up against some unfair competition. In this video we'll explore an idea I think would help ease new players into ranked using to an Elo estimating formula.
