#Remove OS for large team games

Controversial opinion maybe but as a new player I’m finding I get 3v1 frequently when I play in 8v8 games largely because other players can see your OS.

If you’re lower OS (which you are when you start out) you get targeted. I don’t understand what the point of showing OS is in the game.

This artificially depresses ratings. Eg I’m 25 OS medium size and 11 on team game.

Having it as a spec overlay and in lobby sounds like a good idea but not for active players.

I would be interested to hear the experience of other players with this.

In main a few days ago it was stated that when matchmaking starts for smaller lobbies the current OS is going away for it. Probably needing the new client and other stuff before it happens.

  1. Fast ran your 2 last 8v8 games, and at any time you did not get ganged 3v1. If player behind you techs or just sleeps, you can be 1v2, but that is not picking on you personally in any way.

  1. There is no interest to gang 3v1 on new player, because that would leave 2 lines open in front of experianced players. And losing those lines is much worsde than winning the noob line. Usually people try to gang on best enemy player, expecting that noobs that are left "open" lines just sleep and dont push or help until the experianced player is dead.

  1. BAR balance algo and ratings are so broken/bad at the moment, that newish player can have almost any rating, and that can mean almost nothing. Dont worry too much about the rating difference between small team and big team.

a) Ratings and chevrons are here to protect new and not-so-good players. New players naturally play bad/worse than others in the beginning, and they are not treated with toxicity (big majority of time they are not, even if sadly exceptions and toxicity happen). Becasue people can see that they are new and low rated. And they accept that with that comes less good play.
b) Ratings and chevrons protect and make game easyer for new and casual players, by giving them idea of the level of other players, teammates or enemys. Otherwise the experianced/very regular players, who already know other players or are even in voice com with them, would have huge advantage.

I think the general consensus from similar threads is that showing OS is a mistake, but OS is absolutely vital for balanced games.

I agree it’s a tricky one. I suppose there’s nothing to stop seeing the OS in the lobby but then you wouldn’t know where someone spawned I suppose til you clock their colour

My style is probably partly at fault. Too used to 1v1 early raiding and over commit which doesn’t translate well to 8v8 so potentially antagonises players (causing 3v1).

Anyway I’ll keep an eye on it and see if it’s still a theme but certainly from my last few games it has been.

You may want to change your title. As you seem to be arguing for the hiding of os, not its removal.
As removing Os = removing balancing
