With settarget you can left click to target ground or unit, and right click to target unit.
With dragging, the behavior kinda inverts and right click targets ground only, while left units only.
There are two problems with this:

  • How can one force target ground with a single unit selected and vision on a target? It picks the unit automatically and it loses the target when vision is lost. There is no targetgroundonly binding, right?
  • Isn't it counter-intuitive that dragging inverts the behavior? Would it make more sense to have left click targets unit only and right click ground only so that it's consistent with dragging?

The left vs right makes sense to me because it matches all other commands. You move (targeting the ground) with right click. You select (targeting a unit) with left click.

Set target left click matches attack left click. If you hit a unit it targets unit, if you hit the ground it targets the ground. Set target right click on the ground cancels the order, on a unit issues the order on the unit.

Set target as default right click also matches attack. Replacing your default move right click with default attack/default set target right click on the unit.

Set target left click drag matches attack, repair, etc. Making an area and targeting the things inside.

Set target right click drag matches attack right click drag and move right click drag, setting a line of targets on the ground.

Right click doesn't target ground, only unit. Is it different in grid mode?

If you right click grass, your unit moves to that location on the ground.

yes, so I would expect that right click with set target would target ground, right? But it doesn't, it only works if you click on a unit.
